Championships!
Saturday, we came down from a 4-1 deficit to advance to the championship game. I scored 2 goals to cut the lead to one and Tsukasa scored a goal to get us into overtime. Mr. Suguru Kitahara scored the game-winning goal to send our team, The Sandlot, into the championship game where we cruised to a 9-4 victory...

Hmmm... Next week will be a busy week for me as it will include Back to School Night as well as my Annual Client Appreciation/Prospective Client Night at Dodger Stadium in addition to my 2 Graduate School Classes at CSUF with 2 midterms coming up the following week.....

Hockey Game and how I'm thinking at the margin....
Won the playoff game today. I didn't score any goals... I came really close on a one-timer, but the shot simply clanged on the upper-left post.... it's a lot easier to get goals in video game hockey.

I realized that I am extremely out of shape. I played only two periods of hockey for a total of 8-10 minutes and after the game, I felt as if I had just ran the L.A. marathon.

What would the opportunity cost be for me to start exercising?
-Probably time devoted to studying and/or lesson planning and grading... my best option would probably be to start off small and stick to it rather than make some grandiose plan such as running a mile a day, and hitting 24 Fitness 5 times a week.... such resolutions seldom work...
Another thing that I need to consider how much time I should invest in tutoring as opposed to building my Waddell & Reed business. The traditional way to look at this conundrum would be to plot the two activities on a production possibilities frontier. The opportunity cost of tutoring is the foregone chance to further my financial advising business. However seemingly nice it is to fit life's dilemmas on a chart, life sometimes doesn't fit nicely onto a graph.... that's for sure....

Rita
As of 11 p.m. ET, Rita packed maximum sustained winds of 175 mph (280 kph), according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. That's just insane. What is this world coming to with all these disasters striking the United States. How will California respond if we are faced with an earthquake or tsunami? It's unfathomable to think about the damage that came befall is in a matter of moments. What should the government do? Should Bush consider raising taxes to meet the costs of Katrina and potentially Rita? Is that the most efficient thing to do? Does the Federal Reserve stop the increase in federal funds rate? Even in the midst of these disasters, there are a plethora of questions that need to be addressed, and it is essential that we have the right people in office to tackle these challenges ahead of us....

First Extra Credit Assignment
Here's some extra work concerning comparative advantage and opportunity cost. If you want extra practice for the test and want some extra credit, you can turn this in. Or if you want to prepare for the AP exam, I'll do what I can to post up a series of "extra credit" assignments on this part of the site so that you have extra practice materials....

On Comparative Advantage and Why Nations Trade...
In class we learned about absolute advantage and comparative advantage. For those that are more interested in learning about how to prepare for the AP Economics exam, I am more than willing to help you take the test. If you are interested in taking the AP route, I am more than willing to accommodate by making photocopies and even having after-school study sessions....

I will even offer some extra credit for students interested in pursuing this route. Also, let me know if you want to do ACADEMIC DECATHLON this year!

New Post for the New Year
This year I will be teaching 5 periods of economics. This is now my 4th year of teaching this, so I'm feeling very comfortable with the material at hand. My sincere hope for this class is that I will prepare Los Altos Seniors well for economic decisions that they make on an everyday basis.

I will occasionally blog on this website and keep you updated on what is going on in Park's Place...
